SPECIAL NOTICE #2 – UPDATED INFO RE: GLOBAL EDUCATION OFFICE REQUIREMENTS
Students assigned to the Sigonella APPE Elective must register with VCU’s Global Education Office (GEO) to ensure that you are properly informed of matters and requirements related to safety, health records, insurance, and State Department notification.

In order to confirm participation in this APPE if assigned, you must register with GEO by November 15, 2019 or your assignment will be cancelled.

With this registration, each student will be registered for the STUA Course (student abroad).  There is no tuition charge for the course; however, there is a $150 fee for basic international health insurance and travel assistance abroad insurance for evacuation and repatriation.  This course will also require an on-line pre-departure orientation to help you have a safe and successful learning experience aboard.  Further, GEO will notify Financial Aid of your plans abroad.

SPECIAL NOTICE #3-APPLICATION IS A COMMITMENT > NO CHANGES.
By submitting the signed application to the School of Pharmacy Office of Experiential Education for the Sigonella APPE Elective, you confirm your commitment to pay all expenses associated with the rotation and to participate in the rotation as selected and assigned.

SPECIAL NOTICE #4 – REVISED INFO RE: BOARD OF PHARMACY LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Per the Virginia Board of Pharmacy regulations, the pharmacist licensure application requires a minimum of 1,500 hours of pharmacy practical experience which must be gained within the United States.  Now that the School is submitting both IPPE and APPE hours with each application, students completing the Sigonella APPE Elective will have 300 IPPE hours plus 1,400 APPE hours (7x 200-hr), or 1,700 hours practical experience, clearly more than enough to qualify for pharmacist licensure application, whether or not you have additional work experience.

SPECIAL NOTICE #5 – NEW INFO: SITE-SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Automobile Insurance and registration, evidence of current coverage (if driving in Sigonella)
  • Background Check: site-specific
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship Documentation.  Non-U.S. Citizens and Dual Citizens are not eligible for rotations at military bases.
  • Contact preceptor 90 days prior to the rotation start date.
  • Documents/agreements are to be completed on time as directed
  • Finger printing
  • Identification:  Passport, Military ID, or other Real ID Act-compliant identification (see attachment; Virginia driver’s license is not compliant with the Real ID Act)

SPECIAL NOTICE #6 - FLIGHT, HOUSING AND GROUND TRANSPORTATION EXPENSES
Per LCDR Adkins: “Just an estimate on cost outside of the month of August, I would estimate approximately a budget of $3-4K for this rotation (and more in August). This would include airfare ($1.1K), accommodations ($900), food ($600), transportation ($600), then whatever is spent on other activities. This would be per student as we generally take two per rotation and they share room and board and rental car expenses.”
