Program Description:
The Airfare Voucher Award was established on behalf of VCU students through the VCU Office of Procurement Services.  This award program uses airfare miles the university accrues through employee travel and donates them to students to support study abroad.  This award offers an airfare voucher through Delta and occasionally American Airlines (not including taxes) for travel on an approved program.  The award is open to full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate, and professional students in any major.

Please apply for the term when you intend to go abroad, either Spring, Summer, or Fall.  Full year students please apply for the Fall scholarship.  Vouchers are not available for Winter or Spring break programs.

Award decisions are made based on the following selection criteria:
Financial need  - based on written statement and financial aid
Essay Question 

  • Minimum 2.0 GPA (cumulative)
  • Participate in an approved credit-bearing program abroad.  Winter and Spring break programs are ineligible
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Must not receive the Presidential or Provosts Scholarship or have previously received an Airfare Voucher Award
  • Student and program must be registered in the Global Education Office's online system before departure

Booking details:

  • Vouchers may only be utilized through VCU’s contracted travel management company, Christopherson Business Travel. 
  • Due to the limitations of the vouchers, it is likely that you will not be able to travel on your preferred travel date or may need to fly into a different city serviced by the voucher's carrier (as close to your destination as possible).  Students should be prepared to pay any additional travel costs themselves if necessary.
  • Students may need to travel independently (as opposed to traveling with other members of their program) in order to use the voucher.
  • Vouchers must be used only for the approved program.
  • Vouchers may only be used to book airfare in the awardee’s name.
  • Vouchers must be used within 10 business days of receipt of voucher numbers. Travel must be booked no less than 60 days from date of departure.  Failure to book travel within this time frame will result in forfeiture of the voucher.
  • Awardees are responsible for any taxes and fees associated with the ticket. Awardees should be aware that taxes and fees on international airfare can be significant and should budget accordingly.
