Fudan University is located in Shanghai, China's largest commercial and financial district, but the university is set within peaceful and appealing surroundings with close proximity to the Huangpu River, bustling shopping districts, marvelous architecture and numerous historical monuments.
With direct immersion into Chinese language, culture, business and history, Fudan offers a unique, high-quality education well-suited for students who want to study Chinese language and culture.
Students must have at least a 2.75 GPA to apply. Applicants should complete the online VCU application and submit it to VCU Education Abroad by April 15 for the fall and full year semesters and October 15 for the spring semester. Students must submit an academic reference, VCU transcript, and a copy of the identification page of the student's passport.
Once nominated by VCU Education Abroad, students must complete the Fudan online application for foreign students. For application guidance, contact Sarah Carrier at email@example.com
VCU students may participate in the Chinese language intensive program or the English elective program. Students who are fluent in Chinese may have additional options available. Courses include midterms and a two week exam period at the end of each semester, although some exams substitute essays or papers. Exchange students can choose to study for the fall, spring, or full academic year.
Transfer of credit:
Students must earn the equivalent of a C grade or higher in a given course to be eligible for transfer credit. Students are required to take the necessary steps to ensure that transcripts are received from the university upon return to VCU. The Overseas Students Exchange section of the Foreign Affairs office at Fudan will be responsible for the transcripts for exchange students.
Fall Semester: September until mid or late January
Spring Semester: mid-February until mid-July
Students can apply for accommodations online in the international student's dorm building. University-administered housing is not guaranteed. Tuition for VCU students is based on VCU tuition and fees. Room and board are paid directly to Fudan. Cafeteria meal plans are available.
Orientation will be held during the first week of the semester. Students will have a two-hour orientation on Fudan and campus life, a campus tour and dinner. Students will also have a Chinese language exam.
