Numbers included in this budget sheet are estimates, and are for planning purposes only. Your actual cost of participating in the program may be higher or lower, depending on a variety of factors. For example, are you willing to drive to DC for a cheaper flight? Do you already have a valid passport? Are you willing to carefully watch your spending while you're on your program?
The program fee is $1,800 and includes the following:
  • Pick-up and Drop-off at Tocumen International Airport, Panama City
  • All accommodations
  • Breakfasts and dinners while in Panama
  • Ground transportation throughout Panama
  • International Research Fee (to ANAM)
  • Excursion to Chucanti (Darien cloud forest preserve)
  • Entrance fees to cultural sites
  • On-site program director support
  • Pre-departure orientation
  • International Student Identity Card
  • VCU administrative fees
  • Application deposit 
The following are NOT included in the program fee. Students are responsible for:
  • Airfare
  • Lunches (approx. $5/day) and one lunch or dinner ‘out’ (approximately $30.00)
  • Passport application fee, if applicable
  • Personal expenses during the program (estimated at $100-200)
  • Personal equipment (e.g., hiking boots/shoes; day pack; sleeping bag, field clothing, anti-malarial prophylaxis) 
Airfare: Airfare is not included. Participants are responsible for making their own round-trip travel arrangements from the US to their destination city. Program directors will meet with accepted students to go over specific travel logistics and may help students in identifying low-cost travel options. For best fares, students are encouraged to purchase their tickets prior to November 15.

VCU tuition is charged separately and additionally at standard spring semester rates.
